Mitchell (Mitch) O'Brien | Managing Director

Hello!

My name is Mitch O’Brien and I am the Managing Director of our family-run company, monobuild PTY LTD (A Cleveland-Based, Boutique Building + Construciton Company).

Let me tell you a bit about us . . .

My wife Nicki and I moved to Cleveland, Brisbane after I completed my Carpentry Apprenticeship in Napier, New Zealand, in 2009. We moved to Cleveland and fell in love with the climate and lifestyle immediately. It has felt like home to us ever since.

We now have two beautiful children and in recent years, our extended families have also moved to Cleveland and Brisbane from various parts of the world. The monobuild family are very lucky indeed!

Our company, monobuild PTY LTD, was founded in 2012 and has grown from doing minor renovations and maintenance, to building custom-designed homes, large-scale renovations, retail and commercial fit-outs, and complete landscape construction, including pool construction. monobuild services all of Brisbane and the surrounding regions.

monobuild.’s company vision

monobuild prides ourselves on being a Cleveland-Based, Boutique Building + Construction Company that can handle a large scope of projects. We cater to homeowners directly, as well as architects, designers, and businesses alike.

We specialise in:

  • New, Custom-Built Homes

  • Major Residential Renovations

  • Retail and Commercial Fit-Outs

  • Landscape Construction

  • Pool Construction

  • Bespoke, Custom-Made Cabinetry

In the modern era of mass production and cost-effective project building, there is a certain amount of soul and finesse that has been lost from our industry. I am a carpenter at heart, who still loves working on the tools and being on-site. I feel that being directly involved with both the admin and site work, makes for a better, overall finish when it comes to the finer details of any monobuild project.

Let me be clear, we do not want to compete and cannot compete with project builders. monobuild offers something different - a personal experience for each and every client. We offer the flexibility to work within any realistic budget and to complete each project on time, to the highest of standards.

I hope our philosophy resonates with you, as our next potential client. We look forward to working with you!

- Mitch O’Brien and the monobuild. team

where does ‘monobuild.’ come from?

Our company name, monobuild PTY LTD, combines our initials Mitch O’Brien (mo) and Nicki O’Brien (no). When we were trying to come up with a name for our new venture in 2012, after many attempts this was thought up by my mum, Linda . . . Thanks Mum!

As well as our name having sentimental value, which we love and this gives us tremendous pride, mono also signifies singular - A key aspect of our philosophy that sets us apart from most of the larger, Brisbane building companies. Our aim is to provide a streamlined service from concept to completion, with one point of contact throughout the entire building process - our Managing Director, Mitch O’Brien.

Trust us - there are a lot of questions to be asked throughout any project!

monobuild.’s home

Our family home and monobuild’s headquarters are quite unique, so I believe that they need a mention whilst we are sharing our background with you.

The monobuild family live in what was originally a farmer’s cottage - one of the first houses built on our street in Cleveland (Although you couldn’t call it a street back then). There is an aerial shot of our house (pictured above) taken in the 1950s, surrounded by farmland (The original owners operated a carrot farm).

In 1973, the house and farm were then purchased by the Presbyterian Church. Soon after this, they moved an existing church building from another location in Cleveland to its current position, nestled at the rear of the property, where it still stands today. The cottage housed the Priest, whilst the rear building was used for all of the church services.

After decades of use, the organisation moved on and both buildings became quite run down.

In 2011, a Developer, and good friend of ours, purchased the land, including the house and church, to subdivide and then sell off the subsequent smaller blocks. monobuild were lucky enough to purchase the ‘Church Block’ in 2012 and we have lived there ever since.

The house still sits as it did back in the 1950s with the church building at the rear, where monobuild now calls home. Our office and storage area sit within the existing space, with a new carport extension off the front for the monobuild vehicles and larger equipment. We have been chipping away at renovating the whole property since we purchased it (which is an on-going journey)!

We are very proud of our home and I think you will be hard-pressed to find another home and business headquarters set up quite like it.
